Steps School of Dance

Proud to be the first dance school in the area to
provide afterschool arts programs!

The place of the dance is within the heart

The name STEPS conveys a vital message. My mission as Artistic Director is to offer quality technical training with a youth-centered focus. I believe that the role of STEPS is to guide the young dancer through the increasingly disciplined levels of dance in a friendly, caring atmosphere.

These are your children. I appreciate the opportunity to share the excitement, beauty and challenge of dance with them. I am committed to the belief that dance adds depth and texture to the lives of the students. Creative energy, gracefulness, a heightened awareness of music and musicality and mastering a complex discipline are only some of the benefits our youth-centered program affords your child. STEPS dance studio in Clearwater continues to be at the forefront of the dance industry in the Tampa Bay area. STEPS students have received over $50,000 in dance, vocal and acting scholarships to: Pacific Northwest Ballet, School of American Ballet, Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet, Chautauqua Institute, Miami City Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Tremaine Dance, Access Broadway, Hoctor Dance, Dance America, and Hall of Fame. STEPS has had a student represent the school at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, and has been featured in the St. Petersburg Times on several occasions.

STEPS is dedicated to putting quality dance training within reach of the young dancer and his or her family. All prospective students are encouraged to visit STEPS and attend a class of their choice-gratis. They will experience the excitement of a faculty whose goal is to develop each child to the best of his or her ability.
Sincerely,
Miss Maureen Gibson, Artistic Director

Dress Code Requirements

Attendance Policies

All students are required to attend every class in which they are enrolled. Each student's interest and progress is directly related to good attendance. Unexcused absences may jeopardize the promotion of the student. Missed classes should be made up in a timely manner. You may request a make up class schedule at the front desk.

There are no refunds or credits for missed classes.

Students are expected to arrive for class on time. Late arrivals disrupt the class and miss the proper warm-up at the beginning of class. Students who arrive ten or more minutes late for class may be asked to sit and observe. Missed classes are not transferable.

Inclement Weather

In case of inclement weather, parents should call the school for a message about closing. Whenever possible, STEPS tries to be considerate about the various locations our students are traveling. STEPS understands that weather conditions will vary from area to area. All canceled classes will be made-up at the discretion of the Director in designated make-up classes.

Evaluations

The progress of each student will be monitored continually during the school year. The school faculty strives to encourage and challenge all students on an ongoing basis. Students must be recommended by their teacher for advancement to a higher level. Students may not change classes without the teacher's written permission.

Class Placement Audition

Students level intermediate and up with training from other schools should call STEPS for a free evaluation "Trial class" for placement. Please call our office to schedule an appointment.
